Cabin air filters are a handy addition to a car's interior, which didn't exist until just a few years ago. But they are a nice option for those who suffer from allergies, or for folks who live in cities that have their fare share of air pollution and smog. Changing your cabin air filter is a simple and quick job that anyone can do. you will also save a few bucks instead of letting the dealership handle it. Porsche recommends replacing the cabin air filter in the Porsche 997 after 15,000 miles, and every 30,000 miles thereafter, but many prefer to simply change it out every spring.

Materials Needed

  • Cabin air filter
  • Vacuum (optional)

Step 1 – Remove old cabin air filter

Lift the hood, and remove the cover above the battery compartment by turning the two plastic tabs. Next, remove the side cover by lifting it straight up. Lift up the foam flap covering the cabin air filter assembly, and slide the plastic retainer bracket at the center of the filter to the left to remove it. Flip the retention tab located at the right-rear of the filter down, and remove the filter. Note that the directional arrows on the filter point down. Once removed, it's a good idea to use a vacuum to pick up any loose dirt, dust, or junk left behind in the filter housing before installing the new filter.

Step 2 – Insert new cabin air filter

Slide the new cabin air filter into place with the directional arrows pointing down. The new filter will be properly installed when it is secure in the frame, and no foam sealant liner is visible at the bottom of the paper filter. When pressed down far enough, the entire foam section of the filter should be hidden from view. Once in place, flip the retention tab back up and slide the retainer bracket back to the right. Place the foam flap back on top of the filter, and lower the plastic battery compartment cover. Turn the two plastic tabs to lock the cover in place.
