Porsche 997: How to Replace Side Mirrors

Your Porsche 997 is unquestionably unique, and its side mirrors add to that. So whether you're upgrading your side mirrors or replacing broken ones, read on for the steps on how to replace them.

Automotive technology have advanced exponentially within the past decade. Although not as simple as they once were, the side mirrors on your Porsche 997 are still relatively easy to install. This article will provided you with the proper instructions to replace your stock 997 mirrors, or install upgraded carbon fiber ones.

Materials Needed

  • Flat head screwdriver or trim removal tool
  • T30 Torx screwdriver

Step 1 – Remove the interior side mirror cover panels

  • Insert a flat head screwdriver or plastic trim removal tool under the interior side mirror cover panel.
  • Carefully pry the cover out. You should hear two clips snap free.
  • Do not force the cover outward as you may break the clips.
  • Slide the cover panel up and out. Set it aside.

Step 2 – Remove the side mirrors

  • Disconnect the side mirror connector by squeezing the tabs, and pulling it outward.
  • Support the side mirror from outside the car to prevent it from falling once you remove the screws.
  • With a T30 Torx screwdriver, remove three screws that secure the side mirror assembly to the mirror mount.
  • Pull the side mirror assembly out, and set it aside.

Step 3 – Install the new side mirrors

Install the new side mirrors in reverse order to the steps above.

  • Place the new side mirror against the door frame's mirror mount, and line it up with the Torx screw holes.
  • Use the T30 screwdriver to secure the side mirror.
  • Plug the side mirror connector into the mirror assembly.
  • Insert the top of the side mirror cover panel into the mirror mount.
  • Then, snap the bottom of the side mirror cover panel in place.
