New Opponent

It's not exactly a secret that the Porsche 911 Turbo S is the serious straight-line performer in that model's lineup, as has been the case for a very long time. The latest, 992-generation version of the 911 Turbo S is quicker than ever, in fact, as we've seen time and time again as folks line the speedy sports car up against all kinds of opponents. The latest is this - the all-electric Lucid Air Dream Performance, which CarWow managed to get its hands on recently for a very entertaining drag race.

ICE Contender

In this latest example of ICE versus EV, we have a pretty new face taking on a very familiar one - the latter behind the 992 version of the 911 Turbo S, which churns out 640 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque from its turbocharged 3.7-liter inline-six powerplant. However, its opponent on this particular day is packing far more than that.

Powerful and Heavy

The Lucid Air Dream Performance comes equipped with multiple electric motors churning out a whopping 1,111 hp and 1,025 pound-feet of torque, which are monumental numbers, though with a curb weight of 5,235 pounds, it's also around 1,600 pounds heavier than the 911 Turbo S.

Quick off the Line

Regardless, those things tend to not matter much with EVs, which are quite quick off the line thanks to their instant torque. It's also on full display in this series of races as well, as the Lucid manages to use its initial advantage off the line to take home two consecutive victories.

Close Shave

However, for the third race, the Porsche driver deactivates the car's stability control system, which results in a close win for the ICE model. Thus, it's on to a series of half- and full-mile races to see which of these two vehicles is actually superior in terms of all-out acceleration.

Full Sweep

In spite of its electronic speed limiter, the Lucid managed to sweep the Porsche in those longer races, though the 911 did take home the 100-0 mph braking test - not a huge surprise given its far superior weight advantage.

Admirable Performance

Regardless, the 911 Turbo S performed admirably here for a car that's way down on power versus its opponent - not to mention the stark difference in off-the-line speed. Perhaps more importantly, it also sounds amazing, which is obviously something that we can't say about the silent Lucid.
